Corey's departure from the DNK 250 event
into "The Moat" along the Unity Raceway
back straight was as dramatic as the
fiery ending to the 47's race at Lee
Speedway a few weeks before.
Six heats (determined by draw) plus four
concis and finally "C" and "B" mains
were to sort out the 68 cars that had
appeared for the $25,000 To Win big
event.
Running well in Heat #6 - leading at
first from track regular Matt Lee and
then dicing with PASS top runners Mike
Rowe and Scott Mulkern - Corey slipped
wide out of Turn 2 and fell off the
outside of the back straight. Which is a
long way down to a water filled ditch
and a dirt bank. Since the 47 lost no
speed on the way down the grass, the hit
was quite hard and the car crawled to
the top of the dirt banking, tail in the
water.
Corey was fine if a little wet and
dirty. As were the fans.
